Gosh, why didn't I say let's go out for Thanksgiving.  The bird is in the oven.

I read your post as, "Why didn't I say we'd go all out for Thanksgiving" and I thought, "Wow, Lil wants to go over the top this year in preparing a huge Thanksgiving dinner and is disappointed that she didn't think of it earlier. How cool! What a serving heart she has."

roflol. I wish I could say that's what I meant. Haha! We're all done done now and actually it went quite well. Bird was moist and delicious, husband helped a lot, son even said, "This is good."

Tomorrow a bit of extra cleaning. A lot of juice came out of the bird. Is that much juice supposed to come out? It spilled, or as you would say, spilt, all over the oven (it's a new oven too) and floor when husband tried to move it from the oven to the counter. :(

A few years back, we went out of Thanksgiving to some historic inn in West Virginia. It was buffet style and very tasty but wow what a crowd!

Our bird had alot of juice too and my hubby and I had to team up to get it out of the oven.

I should have teamed up like you did. I just watched. Bad wife!

Next time use a turkey basting bag by Reynolds. It keeps all the juices inside the bag, which self baste the turkey as well, until you have it already on the counter and cut open the bag :-)

I will tell my husband! Heck of an idea. Thanks Mermayd. We were discussing how well it turned out sitting in the juices that next year we would not bother with a rack. The bag thing would be great!
